Securites and Version signed an agreement for the implementation of the first artificial intelligence (AI) system in Spain that allows the detection of shoplifting in real time, based on the recognition of certain gestures.
According to data presented at the AECOC 2021 conference on unknown losses, the thefts cost Spanish companies around 1,800 million euros. Although theft represents 63% of all crimes committed in the retail sector in Spain, only 5% are detected.
In response to this problem, Version , the world leader in anti-theft systems based on AI to detect suspicious gestures, landed in Spain with Securites to implement an AI system based on the analysis of gestures and active learning. Thanks to the advanced technology that integrates this security solution, suspicious behavior can be detected automatically by applying AI models to security cameras installed in companies.
“We are well aware of the problem of theft through our specialty retail division. Thanks to our agreement with Version , this expertise and our continued commitment to technology, we will be able to offer our customers in this sector a solution to respond to this challenge in a profitable, efficient and operational, thus contributing to the continuity of its business”, explains Pablo Pacios, Commercial Director of Cybersecurity at Securites Seguridad España.
For his part, Pablo Blanco, director of Version in Spain, said: “Thanks to our system, we are currently helping more than 2,000 stores and supermarkets worldwide to reduce their unknown losses by an average of 60%”.
How it works
The system identifies potential theft perpetrators and analyzes them individually using “deep learning” with a comprehensive tracking method that focuses on the suspect’s general movements and gestures. In this way, the notification is triggered when a suspicious action of theft is identified, allowing the security personnel or person in charge to act in a timely manner. The solution adapts to any type of business, be it a small business with a limited number of cameras, or large stores with complex video surveillance systems.
This technology ensures that people’s identity is protected, analyzing only gestures and not the physical or physiological characteristics of individuals.
To ensure GDPR compliance, Version and Securites have established Video Surveillance Area Signs and a policy of retaining and deleting images for a maximum of 30 days. In addition, all employees of each company will be informed of the presence of these video surveillance devices. Finally, the data used and stored is not transferred internationally.
Version operates under a SaaS (Software as a Service) model with a service hosted on an external secure cloud server where Veesion retrains the AI algorithm for continuous improvement in detecting suspicious gestures.
