The Olympiacos women’s basketball team won 66-50 against Niki Lefkada and made it “14 x 14” in A1.
The Olympiacos women’s basketball team celebrated their first tournament victory of 2023. The Greek doubles triumphantly returned to the A1 “battle”, after defeating Niki Lefkada 66-50 in SEF, in game 14, celebrating the “14 of 14”.
The Olympiacos girls, who competed from 2:38 into the second half without their coach, Thanos Niklas (sent off with two technical kicks), “closed” a lead of 34-32 in the first half, but in the second half, ran away with +18 (66-48) from Lefkada team won the Peace and Friendship Stadium, remaining at the top of the A1 league.
With a basket and a Gustafsson free kick, Olympiacos led by +6 (11-5) in the first minutes (6:39) of the match, and Nikolopoulou scored his second personal pointer, at 4:50, to make it 14-8.
Lefkada’s team advanced with a score of 16-14, and Spiridopoulou responded with a hat-trick (0:45), making the score 17-16, but the Greek double “closed” the first half behind the score (17-18). At 2:38 of the second quarter, Gustafsson increased the lead to +7 (33-26), at which point Olympiacos coach Thanos Niklas was ejected with two technical kicks, and the half ended 34-32.
At 8:32 of the third quarter, Nikolopoulou gave “Rojiblancos” a six-point “air” (38-32), while later (6:13), Spiridopoulou scored from 6.75m, against 41-3.4. With two accurate shots from Nikolopoulou (5:08), Olympiacos escaped with a +9 (43-34) from Niki, with another three-pointer from Spiridopoulou, at 3:57, to make it 46-39.
The visitors were down 46-44, but Olympiacos turned around and with two shots from Autzi (0:02) they made it 52-44, the score that ended the third quarter. The Greek duo came out strong in the last half and at 9:13 reached +13 (57-44), with a three-pointer from Nikolopoulos! With a basket by the young Guzelou, in 34 seconds the “rojiblancos” advanced by 18 points (66-48) and thus prevailed 66-50.
